英语语篇文化本土化改编对学习者阅读理解的影响研究

摘要:

文化本土化改编是指在保留语篇语言与修辞的前提下,将其中的外国文化元素调整为学习者母语文化中的对应表达,从而使语篇内容更加贴近学习者的文化背景。本研究对英语原版语篇进行中华文化本土化改编,并考察了这种改编对我国291名不同英语水平本科生英语字面理解和推理理解的影响。研究结果表明:文化本土化改编对不同水平英语学习者的字面理解没有显著影响,字面理解的关键在于其英语水平;文化本土化改编能够促进中、高水平英语学习者的深层次加工,对其推理理解具有显著的正面影响,而对低水平英语学习者的推理理解并无显著影响。本研究对设计具有中国特色的英语考试阅读语篇具有启示作用。

Abstract:

Cultural nativization refers to the adaptation of foreign cultural elements in a reading text into expressions from learners’ own culture,while maintaining the original linguistic and rhetorical features of the text.This study adapts original English texts by incorporating Chinese cultural elements,and investigates the impact of such cultural nativization on both literal comprehension and inferential comprehension among 291 Chinese undergraduate students with varying levels of English proficiency.The findings reveal that:Cultural nativization has no significant effect on literal comprehension across different proficiency levels,which is primarily determined by learners’ English proficiency;Cultural nativization enhances deeper processing in intermediate and advanced learners,significantly improving their inferential comprehension,while it has no substantial effect on lower-level learners.This study provides valuable insights for the design of reading texts in English language tests with Chinese characteristics.
